Serving as a vacation home for his family, the Batsto Mansion is an excellent example of the Italianate and Eastlake styles, both popular with the Victorian upper class.

Tours of Batsto Mansion are offered at the following times throughout May:

Have you ever heard of Jersey Devil Tomatos? The Batsto Museum Shop has seeds and seedlings for sale! This tomato was developed in New Jersey and has a banana-like shape. When ripe, they look like red peppers! Their flesh is thicker and they have less seeds than other tomatos, which makes them great do sauces and salsa. We have a limited supply of these special tomato plants, so stop in before they’re gone!

The forest is alive in May with the sounds of spring birds nesting and establishing territories. Stop in the Batsto Museum Shop and purchase a bird from our bird basket which is always filled with birds you can hear right now in Wharton State Forest. Blue birds and American goldfinches are just two of the many birds in our basket this month! Near our bird basket you can also pick up our free bird brochure to keep track of the birds you’re seeing or purchase a waterproof guide to take while you explore the forest.

New magnets and shirts are still available in the Atsion General Store to celebrate the 200th anniversary of the Atsion Mansion. Stop by the Atsion General Store for these items, stickers, hats, sweatshirts, books, mugs, and so much more. Stop by after your mansion tour!
